What is couples therapy like at Colors of Austin Counseling?
Relationships are meant to be beautifully complex and multifaceted. They evoke feelings of joy, safety, love, and harmony along with frustration, confusion, secrecy, and sometimes downright anger. Just as each of us evolve as humans, relationships too evolve over time; we sometimes lose sight of the initial spark that ignited the flame within the relationship. Life can, at times, fog up our glasses and create confusion and muddiness within our relationships.
Couples often will come to therapy when they feel they've reached the point of no return or when the sense of joy, connection, and security has gotten lost. Although we do embrace that not all relationships are meant to last forever, we do believe that engaging in relationship counseling will bring a sense of peace and clarity within the relationship.
Our therapists support the individuals within the relationship in finding clarity and a stronger understanding of how all of the pieces work together (or don't work together). Through the therapeutic experience, we're able to un-muddy the waters which allows greater clarity in identifying the needs and wants of each person. Along with this clarification, we're able to gain a better perspective in how to effectively and authentically communicate and develop tools in navigating through the good times and the not-so-good times. Each of us, as individuals, experience our own ups and downs, so it is to be expected and is normal for relationships to experience the same peaks and valleys. We support individuals in traversing through these experiences and help them rediscover the initial spark from which the relationship grew.
