Why I do this work
My own childhood experiences instilled in me the importance of having a safe and supportive space to explore my emotions and navigate challenges. As a therapist, I strive to provide that same sense of safety and support to the children I work with. Witnessing the resilience and strength of children has been incredibly inspiring and I am driven to help families and children overcome life’s obstacles and reach their full potential in their everyday life.
Approach to therapy
My therapeutic approach is child-centered and collaborative, prioritizing the unique individuality and cultural background of each child and family. I believe that children and families are experts of their own experiences, and I strive to create a safe and playful space where they can express themselves freely and authentically. I utilize play therapy techniques, art therapy, and other creative modalities to help children process emotions, build resilience, and develop coping skills and will adapt my approach to their needs.
I understand that the family system plays a crucial role in a child's well-being. I believe in partnering with parents to support their child's growth and development within their cultural context. This may involve providing psychoeducation, offering culturally sensitive parenting strategies, and helping families navigate challenges within their unique family system.
My goal is to empower both children and their families to navigate life's challenges with confidence and resilience, while honoring their individual strengths, cultural values, and unique experiences.
Education
Bachelors of Social Work from The University of Texas at Austin & Masters of Science in Social Work with a Clinical focus from The University of Texas at Austin.
Personal
Outside of the therapy room, I enjoy exploring the vibrant Austin music scene, catching live shows, and trying out new local restaurants and cafes. I'm also an avid cyclist and enjoy exploring the city's many green spaces. When I'm not working or exploring the city, I love spending time with my cat, Atticus, and indulging in a good show or movie. When I’m not exploring the city or relaxing with a new show or movie, I take a strong interest in my creative side by listening to music while baking new recipes. I believe in living a balanced life and practicing what I preach by prioritizing self-care and mindfulness. I bring this same sense of balance and compassion to my work as a therapist, creating a warm and supportive environment where your child can feel comfortable and understood.
Favorite place in Austin: The Greenbelt or trails around Lady Bird Lake.
Favorite Saturday afternoon activity: Cheering for the Longhorns during college football season or a fun outdoor activity like hiking, cycling, or a short walk on the trail!
Favorite self-care tip: Self-care activities you enjoy most or even used to enjoy, such as drawing, listening to music, singing, dancing, and journaling, aid in emotional regulation and stress reduction. Take a few moments to care for yourself before you show up for others.
Favorite quote or affirmation: “Life cannot be described; it can only be experienced and appreciated. Descriptions can always be evaluated, but life cannot. Life is. It unfolds and is in totality at that moment, no more and no less. We don't look at a person and judge or evaluate that person to have too little of life or too much.”-Garry L. Landreth
I feel most calm & content when: I and those I care about are safe and thriving in life.
I love learning about: New perspectives, traditions, foods, desserts, and music.
