Alex is particularly well-suited to support

  • Young adults who are faced with complicated families of origin

  • Adults struggling depression and anxiety, adult children of alcoholics, life transitions, addiction, low self esteem, and self harm

  • Thorough skill building to manage stress, interpersonal issues, and acute crises

  • Individuals who have some history with therapy and are looking for a connected therapist/client relationship that will both support and challenge you

I am a local therapist, in practice since 2011.

I have a deep conviction that people have an ability to heal and are worth the effort to do so. I hold that change and healing are created through building healthy relationships and in believing in our own self-worth.

professional

I have primarily worked with people in crises, seeking meaning, connection, and in need of effective coping strategies. With them, I have assisted families with issues ranging from education of mental illness to relationship-building.

As a social worker at an inpatient psychiatric hospital, I worked with children, adolescents, and their families with every issue that precipitates hospitalization. This setting taught me about people's resilience and willingness, despite crises, trauma, and pain. With adults in outpatient therapy, I have addressed issues of belonging, depression, relationships and challenging life transitions. During my education, I worked at other levels of care - a partial hospitalization program and residential treatment facility.

approach to therapy

I challenge my clients to honor the battles they are facing while reaching out for support. I utilize the mind-body connection, DBT skills, and our working relationship to build trust and offer insight for my clients. I hold space in a safe, authentic environment, while challenging the ideas or behaviors that no longer serves my clients. I balance gentle listening with actively challenging client's behavior.

Through my experience across different programs, I recognize that each have value in helping people navigate their issues - from addictions and aggression to suicidality and low self-esteem. I work alongside my clients to help them navigate the balance between acceptance and change, while teaching the skills we all need to build on our inherent strength and worthiness.

Why alex does this work

I'm an empath and born HSP (highly sensitive person), so I was naturally drawn toward a field in which I can support other people. Connecting is easy for me; education and my own journey balanced my empathy and sensitivity with knowledge, skills, and boundaries. I find fulfillment in helping others connect to their highest self and address their own barriers to wholehearted living.
