PROUDLY IDENTIFYING AS LATINX AND BEING FROM A BORDER CITY - THIS GREATLY INFLUENCES HOW I VIEW THINGS IN LIFE AND IN HOW I APPROACH MY WORK.

I was born and raised in El Paso, Texas. Being from a border city greatly influences how I view things in life and in how I approach my work. I am a bilingual Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Council-Approved Supervisor and have been a social worker for over 20 years. I have spent the majority of my career working in various local Austin nonprofits and health care settings (both inpatient and outpatient). I have experience working with cancer and chronic illness, loss and grief, depression, anxiety, life transitions, professional issues, and relationship issues.

APPROACH TO THERAPY

I believe that we all encounter different challenges and stressors throughout the course of our lives. And sometimes those challenges and stressors can be overwhelming and exhausting to tackle solo. I believe that sometimes we aren’t sure what we even need, but are certain that something needs to or could possibly be different in our life. Regardless of why you are reading this right now, I can be of support.

In partnership with you, my hope is that you experience something positive, genuine, powerful and real in your therapy journey. Together we can identify how to navigate life’s challenges and stressors in a way that is meaningful and authentic to you.

WHY BECKY DOES THIS WORK

After planning for and working towards a career in law, I shifted to social work because I believed social work would enable me to serve others in a way that I couldn’t necessarily describe at the time, yet felt personally compelled to and drawn towards.  Many years later, I wake up every morning never regretting my decision and feeling incredibly humbled and honored to do the work that I do.  Many search endlessly for a career and profession that nourishes and rewards them, and I am grateful to have found this and have the gift of serving and sitting alongside others on their respective life journeys.

As a Latinx woman, I often navigate spaces where I do not feel seen nor heard.  I am seen and heard at Colors of Austin day in and day out.  I believe this empowers me to support those that I serve who also may often feel unseen and unheard out in the world.
